THE FIRST LESBIAN WEEK

We gathered at Pohorje, lesbians from Novi Sad, Maribor, Skopje, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Split, forty-five of us, to share our experiences in a unique way for the first time in historyThrough this meeting we wanted to strengthen our relationships and lesbian solidarity among us.
We wanted to bring out and discuss knowledge about lesbian and feminist theories and we wanted to support new initiatives of organizing lesbians especially in places where they were still not.
During these six days we listened to each other, we heard different experiences about the complexity of lesbian existance in hetero-partriarhal society. It was not easy but it was beautiful.
We worked through workshops which made many of us encouraged in our lesbian identities in order to strengthen our private lives and in political activism.
It turned out that we overcame national and state boundaries and met each other through the experiances of our lesbian existances.
It showed that hatred towards lesbians legitimized through social, state and cultural institutions was part of our personal lives just the same and elimination of homophobia was a process in which we needed each other.
In the middle of the wood we were screaming, singing, dancing and enjoying.
We agreed that:
- we would cooperate because we want to
- we would continue organizing these meetings every year
- we would work on lesbian visibility in all places
- we would support each other in forming new groups and other political activities in promotion of lesbian human rights
- we would support each other in re-creating a lesbian world movement
- we would form a feminist-lesbian working group that would analyse political systems of ex Yugoslavia states and elaborate the plan of action for establishing citizen equality to lesbians.
It is very important to us that we are all diferent and that we bear thousands of normalities with which we change the world.
