Statement regarding International Pride day



International Pride day in Belgrade is marked today by unfolding rainbow canvas that represents symbol of LGBT movement. The canvas is unfolded on the building of Ministry for human and minority rights.


Representatives of Labris and Gayten, organizations for LGBT rights unfolded rainbow flag and therefore symbolically marked the day of struggling for the rights of lesbians , gays, bisexuals and transgender people (LGBT).


Since LGBT population in Serbia doesn’t have right to spontaneous gatherings, and  we need to negotiate couple of months in advance in order to organize Pride parade , we are , symbolically marking International pride day with this gesture, Labris representative Jovanka Todorovic Savovic said for the press. Nevertheless, this symbolic gesture isn’t substitution  for the Parade that will be held this fall.


Director of the Directorate for human and minority rights Nenad Djurdjevic explained that’s this event symbolically marked International pride day and that Ministry of public administration and local government , human and minority rights , expresses strong commitment to respecting all minority groups , including sexual minorities.  On this occasion he also stated that members of LGBT community should have equal status in the society, and talked about necessity of raising awareness of citizens in Serbia until level of all developed countries is reached. It is very important that the choice of sexual orientation in Serbia is respected to its fullest level, said Djurdjevic.


Number of representatives from few LGBT organizations came to the performance in front of Ministry of human and minority rights.
