Insults to LG population during Operation Triumph

Labris - lesbian human rights organization sent an indignation letter to the B92 Editor in Chief, Veran Matić and to the director of Emotion, Goran Stamenković regarding airing of speech offensive to the lesbian and gay population during the Operation Triumph show.

Listed below are some of the statements made by Sky Wikluh, a special guest during this competition, who used very offensive and ridiculing language with one of the participants:

"Be a little hetero!"

"When he walks like a girl"

"Don’t be a sissy your whole life"

"Stand like a man, don’t give me any of that fag stuff"

Airing of such statements reinforces the stereotypes and prejudices against the lesbian and gay population and also encourages discrimination and intolerance toward anybody who differs from the heterosexual, majority norms. Also, we consider that positions like these insult persons who are of different sexual orientation to heterosexual and that their public airing is in contrast to professional and responsible journalism. Labris asked that Veran Matić issue a public apology to the lesbian and gay population for the airing offensive and discriminatory speech, as well as to ensure that the participants of this show are no longer insulted based on their actual or presumed sexual orientation or any other personal attributes.
